Politics @ the Johnson's

So here we are in another election year, and it's a first for me. A first that my kids are actually paying attention, keeping score and choosing sides!

Emily, the 8 year old, has been picking up information from friends at school and at her after-school program, and it turns out they are all Republicans! At dinner, she reports who her candidate is, and asks who WE are voting for. She also wants to know why children can't vote, but that's another discussion! I don't recall what Kelly said, but I said I was undecided. She looked at me like I was NUTS! Undecided? Really? Isn't it obvious who to vote for??!? I tell her that I need to look more closely at what each of the candidate's believe and what they will do for the country before I will make a solid decision. She says, "Oh..." and is quiet for a while.

The next day, we all head to the library. While there, Emily's face lights up and she says, "Can we find some books about McCain AND Obama? I'd like to see both sides." She also informs me that both of these men's children have written books about their respective Dads, and she'd like to also read those. Wow. We look, and later do some research on the internet - as I carefully pick things I think she can understand, although I clearly underestimate her level of understanding...

Even Trevor is getting into it -- "Mommy, who are you voting for? You should vote for John McCain...Mommy...Mommy?" Again, he's obviously been listening to Republican friends... Anyway, I finally asked him WHY he liked John McCain, and he says, "Because he makes sense!" Ok - I'm not sure I agree with that statement, but I'm so impressed he had an answer to the question!

It will be interesting to see how November 4 turns out.

I am so honored to be at the top of your blog list. I love this first post. And, I love your GNO post as well. A three-legged hamster? That sounds like it belongs in the title of an awesome book! What a fun blog.

Thanks for following my blog :).

I love this. My kids are doing the same thing. They think it's all so cut and dried. And they are having like little elections in their classes...they 'get' soooo much more about politics than I ever did!

Thanks for the kudos to the GNO site! We are getting so many suggestions for great topics and people to ask about doing guest tweets? Who knew how fun this could be!

There must be something wrong with my kids...they are just not very interesting in what's going on. Weird because my husband and I talk about it all the time!

I just popped in to say hi! I'm visiting all the #gno ladies! Wasn't it fun on Tuesday night??
