Our 3-Legged Hamster Has a Guardian Angel

So - if you don't know about our 3-legged hamster - check my June blog. Miley is still going strong, 3 legs and all. Today, however, I thought might have been her last!

We were getting ready to leave the house, when Kelly called me from the kitchen -- "um...Anne, I think we have a problem..." I'm thinking, oh geez, now what? Did the dog throw up? Did Trevor dump my purse on the floor? What? I head out there and I see my daughter Emily and her hand is to her mouth and she's wearing a horrified expression. Kelly says, "The hamster's loose." Now I notice the hamster ball on the kitchen floor, sitting still and empty, the lid laying next to it. My first thought, is oh, no, the dog! I glance out the back door, and see Odie laying on the porch, oblivious to the fact that he narrowly missed having the snack he's been hoping for.

I walk up to the ball and squint inside, you know, like maybe they were wrong -- they missed seeing her somehow. I mean, she IS a DWARF hamster, right? So she's little.... Nope, not there. Moving into action, Kelly is skirting the room, checking behind the trashcan, table, chairs, recycle bin. I call for a flashlight, and for once, my children snap to on the first request and someone hustles a flashlight to me. I peered between the fridge and the wall, and oh, thank God, there she was. Kelly quickly thought of and brought me a box, and within minutes, Miley was returned to her humble abode. Whew! I don't know who was more relieved, Emily or me!

I swear, the hamster has a guardian angel, or 9 lives or something.
